Newberry women fall to USC Aiken, 9-0

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis team dropped its third match of the season by losing to the USC Aiken Lady Pacers on Wednesday, 9-0.

Doubles play began with Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) and Rebekah Crouch's (Saluda, S.C.) loss to Mathilde Grenet and Brittany Telford, 8-3. In the next doubles match, the team of Lindsey and Allison Kyser (Saluda, S.C.) dropped their match to Maria Soledad Angel and Stephanie Humphrey by the score of 8-1. In the third doubles flight, Kelly Cheesborough (Harlem, Ga.) and Denise Williams (Blackville, S.C.) lost to Melanie Schneider and Courtney Hall, 8-2.

In singles play, Mortimer fell to Humphrey (6-1, 6-1); Crouch lost to Grenet (6-0, 6-0); Cheesborough dropped her match to Angel (6-0, 6-0); Allison Kyzer lost to Telford (6-0, 6-0); Lindsey Kyzer fell to Schneider (6-0, 6-1); and Williams was taken down by Brittany Gore (6-1, 6-0).

The loss puts the Newberry College women's tennis team at 0-3 on the season. The scarlet and gray will begin conference play this Saturday at home against Mars Hill at 1:30 pm. USC Aiken (4-5) will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Columbus St. this Thursday at 2:30 pm.
