NEWBERRY, S.C. - The No. 2 Newberry College wrestling team won their final East Region match of the season as they defeated Anderson University, 37-9. Seven Newberry wrestlers claimed victories in the match, which included victories in the final five matches.

The scarlet and gray are now 22-2 on the season and hold an 11-0 record against East Region opponents. In the match, Newberry scored four pinfalls, two major decisions and one technical fall to clinch their ninth straight victory.

At 125 lbs., Matt Oliver (Toms River, N.J) lost to C.J. Hamilton by a 5-3 decision. Hamilton, who is No. 2 in the East Region, delivered Oliver his first loss since Jan. 4 and dropped his season record to 22-3 on the year.

Sheridan Moran (Lafayette, La.) regained the lead for Newberry as he pinned Zack Agerton at the 4:06 mark. The pinfall was Moran's eighth of the season as he improved his season record to 21-8.

In the night's third match, Tony Washington (Georgetown, S.C.) scored his seventh major decision of the season as he triumphed over Ron Lofton by a 10-2 score. The victory moved Washington's record to 20-6 on the year. It was also a career milestone for Washington as he garnered his fiftieth career win.

In the 149 pound match, Latra Collick (Berlin, Md.) fell to Nick Dicarlo by a 3-2 decision. The loss was Collick's first against an East Region opponent as his season record fell to 23-6. Collick's loss lowered Newberry's lead to 10-6.

Sean Byrnes (Jackson, N.J.) lost Newberry's third straight match as he lost to J.J. Jackson by a 5-3 decision. Byrnes' loss dropped his record to 16-9 and narrowed Newberry's lead to 10-9.

The Ed South Invitational Most Outstanding Wrestler, Brandon Kelly (Fort Myers, Fla.), won his match at 165 lbs., by a 12-3 major decision over Trevor Sanford. The victory was Kelly's thirteenth straight victory and his fifth major decision of the season.

Josh Whitelock (Rhodesdale, Md.) scored a 19-3 technical fall at the 6:55 mark. The technical was Whitelock's sixth of the season and seventh of his career, which ties the mark for most career technical falls and sets a new mark for most technical falls in a season. Whitelock's record improved to 21-8 and pushed Newberry's lead to 19-9.

At 184 lbs., Bryant Blanton (Summerville, S.C.) pinned Luis Audelo at the 2:13 mark to give Newberry a 25-9 lead. The pin was Blanton's fourteenth of the season, a Newberry record, and improved his season record to 24-5.

All-American Keeno Griffin (Jacksonville, Fla.) pinned Zack Anderson at the 4:56 mark to give Newberry their second straight pin and third of the dual. Griffin's pin was his third of the season as his record improved 24-2 on the year.

Fellow All-American Cy Wainwright (Green Cove Spring, Fla.) followed suit of the previous two wrestlers and pinned his opponent, Jonah Adams at the 2:32 mark. Wainwright's pin was the twenty-ninth of his career, which set a Newberry record for most pins a career. With the victory, Wainwright's record improved to 28-0 and pushed his winning streak to 30.

Newberry's next match is tonight at 8 p.m. against the University of North Carolina, which will also serve as Newberry's Senior Night.
