Jeffrey Taylor signs with NPSL's Queen City FC

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Former Newberry College men's soccer player Jeffrey Taylor has signed with Queen City Football Club of the National Premier Soccer League, College officials announced today.

Taylor, who completed his career at Newberry in 2006, becomes the first former Indian to sign a professional soccer contract. Taylor finished his Newberry career in fourth place all-time in points with 47, and was second all-time in assists with 13.

"This is a dream come true for me," Taylor said. "It took a lot of hard work and time invested to make it this far. It also took a lot of sacrifices from other people, and I'd like to thank my parents and my coaches for that.

"Signing with Queen City is a step in the direction that I want to be going, since they are a feeder club for the team in Holland that I have been speaking with," Taylor added.

"This is exciting not only for me, but for the Newberry College soccer program," Newberry head coach Sam Okpodu said. "It's exciting for him because I know he's worked very hard for this. This last year has been incredible because of the time and work he's invested to make his dream a reality.

"I knew all along that we could develop great players at Newberry College, and J.T. is just the first of many to come," Okpodu added.
