AIKEN, S.C. - The Lady Pacers of USC Aiken (1-1) swept the Newberry College Lady Indians Monday afternoon, 9-0. Newberry (0-2) did not win a set on the afternoon.
Newberry was competetive in doubles competition despite not scoring a win. Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) and Chanelle Clare (Nassau, Bahamas) fell just 8-5 in No. 1 doubles to Kristin Hunter and Maria Soledad Angel. The 2nd flight was a barnburner as well, with Mathilde Greenet and Marianne Blattes edging Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario) and Bethany Poppe (Califon, N.J.) 8-6.
Only one singles match was close, with Poppe falling to Stephanie Humphrey 4-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Juan Pablo Favero's team looks to right the ship Wednesday when they host Spartanburg Methodist in an exhibition match.
