Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - The Newberry College volleyball team dropped their final regular season match of the season Saturday afternoon by losing to the Carson-Newman Eagles, 0-3 (15-25, 21-25, 18-25)
Lorena Maia (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) played very well Saturday and led her team in kills with 10. She also earned an above average attack percentage of .368. Brianna Blakely (Houston, Texas) once again led the team in assists with 25 and also added six digs. The digs leader for the scarlet and gray was Kara Harris (Grandview, Texas) with eight.
The Eagles were superb on both offense and defense in the match earning 18 more kills, six more digs, and six more blocks than Newberry. Jessica Brady (Fruitland Park, Fla.) attacked the ball very efficiently while leading her squad in both kills (11) and attack percentage (.667). Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) also had a strong outing with nine kills and no errors on 15 attacks. Allyson Corhn (Hendersonville, N.C.) led the Eagles in assists with 20 and Haley Bush (Spartanburg, S.C.) led her team in digs with nine.
With the loss, the Newberry College volleyball team finishes the regular season with a 17-12 overall record and an 8-8 record in the South Atlantic Conference. Carson-Newman finishes their season with a 23-13 overall record and an 11-5 record in the SAC.
Now that the regular season has come to a close, the 2008 SAC volleyball tournament is set to begin. First round matches begin this Thursday, November 13 at Mars Hill College.
