Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College had little trouble dispatching the visiting Southern Wesleyan University Warriors, as the Lady Indians swept (30-18, 30-12, 30-20) in non-conference volleyball action Wednesday. Newberry elevates its record to 10-2 on the season.
Priscila Sales (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the team with 10 kills and 10 digs for her fourth consecutive double-double performance. Libero Nadia Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the team with 11 digs, while Kara Harris (Grandview, Texas) added 10 digs.
The Newberry offense had little trouble all night, as the Warriors were unable to record a block in the match. SWU only hit .062 on the night, while the Lady Indians hit .316 to cruise to a win.
Sales recorded three aces and was the only player in double-digit kills, while Cara Coleman (Allentown, Pa.) recorded two aces. Coleman and twins Dani Hroblak and Niki Hroblak (Lake Wylie, S.C.) each recorded solo blocks. Brianna Blakely (Houston, Texas) dished out 26 assists in the first two games, while Kilee Ruppe (Spartanburg, S.C.) recorded 10 assists in the final game. Fernanda Frey (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had nine kills in the match.
Melinda Hegeman led Southern Welseyan with seven kills, while Keni Abercrombie had 11 digs.
The Lady Indians return to South Atlantic Conference paly this weekend with a two-match road swing through Tennessee. Newberry plays at Tusculum on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Lady Indians pay a visit to Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match.
