Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Newberry College volleyball team extended its season-opening winning streak to six matches with a 30-20, 30-27, 30-10 win over North Greenville University in Hayes Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Newberry (6-0) was led in kills by Cara Coleman (Allentown, Pa.) and Priscila Sales with eight apiece.
The Lady Indians started off solid, taking an early 10-point lead and holding NGU off for a 30-20 game one win. The team hit .270 in the opener to take the first game.
In the second game, Newberry had a harder time putting the points away, as the team only hit .056, with a season-worst 11 attacking errors in the game. But the Lady Indians found a way to earn a win in the back-and-forth game and extend the lead to 2-0.
The team refocused going into the third game and looked like a team ready for conference play in the easy win. The Lady Indians hit .571 in the game with no hitting errors in the final game, and the defense set up a wall at the net, recording six blocks. The offensive effort was supported by seven service aces. The match was put away by a surprise kill from setter Kilee Ruppe (Spartanburg, S.C.).
Laurie Barman (Madison, Wisc.) led the team with two solo blocks and three block assists, while Kara Harris (Grandview, Texas) paced the team's defensive effort with a team-high 14 digs. Sales and Dani Hroblak (Lake Wylie, S.C.) led the Lady Indians with four service aces apiece.
Newberry meets another team on a hot streak when the Lady Indians host 12-1 Catawba College in the South Atlantic Conference opener for both teams. Friday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Eleazer Arena.
