Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. � Lynn University would score two runs in the fourth inning and held off a late Newberry rally to defeat the Indians 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the McCusker Sportsplex.
Newberry falls to 7-15 overall while Lynn moves to 11-9. The Indians will play later this evening at Barry University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
In the Knight fourth, right fielder Jason Ten Eyck led off the frame with a solo homerun to left off of Indian starter Ernie Castelano (0-2) to give Lynn the 1-0 lead. Brad Foutch would deliver a single to left that allowed Ricky Gerena to score to make it a 2-0 game.
In the Newberry fifth, second baseman Kris Garcia led off with a solo homerun to left, his first of the season, to cut the Knight lead to 2-1.
In the ninth, Scott Horvath would deliver a one-out single through the left side and would promptly steal second to put the game-tying run 180 feet away from home. However, Lynn closer Andrew Majoros struck out two batters as Lynn escaped with the one-run victory.
Garcia led Newberry with a 3-for-4 performance on the afternoon. David Tunstill followed up with a 2-for-4 game.
Joe Arminio led the Knights with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.
Lynn starting pitcher Chris Snow (2-1) picked up the victory. Majoros recorded his second save of the season.
