Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. � Barry University scored five runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings to defeat Newberry College 9-5 on Tuesday evening at Feinbloom Field. Barry evened the season series with the Indians at 2-2.
The Indians (7-13) jumped out on top in the first inning by a score of 1-0. Kris Garcia lined a double into the gap in right-center and advanced to third on a one-out single to left by Scott Horvath. David Tunstill would lift a sacrifice fly to right, plating Garcia with Newberry�s first run of the contest.
In the Indian third, Newberry benefited from a costly error by Barry to go up by a score of 2-0. With two outs, Tunstill reached base after being hit-by-a-pitch and Chase Bailey followed by drawing a walk. Tunstill would score on a throwing error by Buccaneer second baseman Gabriel Casanova to give Newberry a two-run advantage.
Barry (12-9) would take the lead in their half of the third at 3-2. Nick Shaw led off with a single and advanced to second on another single by Evan Ashley. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Andrew Frezza would drive home both runs with a single through the left side to even the score at 2-2. With two outs and Frezza at third, Casanova would deliver a single through the left side to plate Frezza and give the Buccaneers the lead.
In the Buccaneer fifth, singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a double by Casanova. Danny Marquez would lay down a sacrifice bunt to plate Casanova, giving Barry a 5-2 lead.
Barry would plate three runs in the sixth to go up 8-2. Servidio drove in two runs with a triple while Casanova would later plate a run with a double.
Indian designated hitter Ryan Easterby was the leading hitter at the plate for Newberry, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Servidio was the leading hitter for Barry, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three runs driven in.
Bobby Riley (2-1) earned the victory for the Buccaneers pitching 6.0 innings while striking out four. The loss was credited to Indian starting pitcher Charlie Mangione (0-3).
Newberry will tangle with Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. at 1:00 p.m. and will make the short trip back to Miami to face Barry tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m.
