PHILIPPI, W. Va. - Alderson-Broaddus defeated Newberry College in overtime, 3-2, in NCAA Division II men's soccer action Saturday afternoon. The loss was the third in a row for the Indians who fell to 7-6 on the year.

Jarvis Snyder (Alexandria, La.) and Jovan Rochford (Arima, Trinidad) both scored for Newberry in the loss.

The Indians grabbed the first lead of the afternoon in the 27th minute when Edgar Valencia (Greenville, S.C.) led Snyder with a pass up the middle which Snyder deposited in the back of the net. The goal was the fourth of the year for Snyder.

The Battlers tied the game with less then two minutes remaining in the first half. Chris Pasqual beat the Newberry back line on a run up the left side and scored the equalizing goal.

Alderson-Broaddus took its first lead of the game in the 52nd minute when the Indians backline was again beat on a run up the left side. The Battlers' Ryan Burr took the pass from Michael Wilson and beat Newberry goalie Will Dieterich (Tampa Fla.) one-on-one to take a 2-1 lead.

The score would remain 2-1 until the 86th minute when Newberry's Ruben Bravo (Camden, S.C.) connected with Rochford for the tying goal. Bravo passed the ball from in front of the Indians' bench to the far post where Rochford leaped and headed it past Alderson-Broaddus goalie, Neil Wright-Elliot.

The match headed into extra time as the score remained 2-2 at the end of regulation.

Alderson-Broaddus ended the match just two minutes into the extra period when Michael Wilson fired a shot from 30 yards out past a diving Dieterich. The goal ended a very good day for Wilson who had assisted on each of the Battlers' first two goals.

The Indians clearly missed the contributions and leadership of Debola Ogunseye (Lagos, Nigeria) and Jeff Bell (North Augusta, S.C.) as the team struggled on both ends of the pitch.

Newberry's next game is Sunday, October 7, when they continue their road swing through West Virginia with a match against West Virginia Wesleyan, which kicks off at 2 p.m.
