Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Lady Eagles kept close to Newberry, but the Lady Indians eked out two-point wins in games three and four to defeat Carson-Newman, 3-1, at Holt Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 30-22, 19-30, 32-30 and 30-28.
Carson-Newman (18-8, 2-8 SAC) tied the game at 1-1 after a strong 30-19 victory in game two. Despite having more kills than Newberry in the final two games (36-30), the Indians won the final two points of each game to earn their 15th win of the season and fifth win in the South Atlantic Conference.
Kelsey Fleck led C-N with 14 kills while Katie Troyer added 11 and Caitlin Schlegel collected 10. Allyson Corhn collected 25 assists for the Lady Eagles with teammate Stephanie Cutter adding 22. Salem Stepp had a season high 36 digs to lead C-N in that category while Carly Mozgai and Troyer posted three blocks each. Troyer served three aces while Stepp had two aces.
Newberry (15-6, 5-6 SAC) received 11 kills each from Fernanda Frey and Priscila Sales while Laurie Barman had 10 kills and Lorena Maia added nine. Kilee Ruppe posted 43 assists and had 10 digs along with Frey.
Newberry travels to USC Aiken on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup before closing SAC play with three straight at home.
