Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College's Cara Coleman eclipsed the school's all-time kills record in a 30-22, 30-19, 30-16 sweep of Brevard College in Division II women's volleyball action Wednesday night.
Coleman, a senior from Allentown, Pa., now has 970 career kills, breaking the record of 964 held by Bronwyn Libeer, who played at Newberry from 1998-2001. Cara finished with six kills on the night.
Newberry (13-6 overall) was paced by 11 kills from Priscila Sales (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), and held Brevard to a minus-.047 hitting percentage.
Brevard (14-10 overall) only recorded 13 kills in the match. Christy Stegall (Fort Mill, S.C.) and Kara Harris (Grandview, Texas) led the Lady Indians with seven digs apiece. Laurie Barman (Madison, Wisc.) added a solo block as well as four block assists, while Lorena Maia (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) hard four block assists, seven kills and two aces.
The Lady Indians resume conference play with a two-match road swing this weekend. Newberry plays at Mars Hill on Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. Saturday match at Carson-Newman.
