RALEIGH, N.C. – Newberry College scored three victories on the day but Division I opponent North Carolina State was too much as the Indians fell to the Wolfpack 34-12 on Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum.
After NC State scored victories in the 125 and 133-pound weight class, Newberry’s Tony Washington scored a fall at the 6:55 mark to give the Indians’ their first victory of the afternoon. Washington is ranked sixth in all of NCAA Division II in the 141-pound weight class. Jesse Creed and Quinn Tolbert would score victories in the 157 and 174-pound weight classes on the day. Tolbert is the seventh-ranked wrestler in NCAA Division II for the 174-pound weight class.
The Indians (11-3-1) will compete in the East Coast Duals next weekend on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown. Newberry will face Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Friday evening. On Saturday, the Indians will tangle with Shippensburg University, Gannon College, and will conclude the tournament with a bout against Mercyhurst University.
