Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. � Newberry College fell to .500 in the South Atlantic Conference after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Catawba College on Friday evening. The Lady Indians fell to a 2-10 overall record after a four game set with scores of 30-25, 18-30, 30-16, and 30-27.
The Catawba Indians received solid all-around performance from underclassmen. Sophomore Melissa Griffith registered 18 kills in 48 attacks despite 11 errors. The Williamsburg, Va. native also chipped in 14 digs.
Fellow sophomore Melissa Powers notched 15 kills with an attacking percentage of .379. Powers was solid on the defensive side accounting for two solo blocks and three block assists. Adding to the youth movement was freshman Mai Zoua Lo with 13 kills, two service aces and 13 digs.
Junior setter Andi Henderson served up 56 assists for Catawba.
The Lady Indians racked up 48 total kills in the four games with freshman Lorena Maia leading the scarlet and gray with 15. Maia also racked up four service aces along with eight digs and three block assists.
Laurie Barman, a junior from Madison, Wisc., tallied 10 kills and a block assist. Fellow junior Cara Coleman had nine kills and no errors in 24 attacks. The Allentown, Pa. native contributed defensively with one solo block to go along with four assisted blocks.
Freshman Kilee Ruppe once again led the Lady Indians with 35 assists. In addition to her setting, Ruppe also churned out six digs, and a single service ace.
The Lady Indians take the court again Saturday at 1 p.m. versus Wingate University at Eleazer Arena.
