#13 Pacers too much for Indians; USC Aiken defeats Newberry, 11-4

AIKEN, S.C. � USC Aiken used big bats for 11 runs and 16 hits to down Newberry College, late Thursday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. With the victory, the thirteenth-ranked Pacers hit the 30-win mark on the season as Newberry falls to 8-34-1.

Aiken put four runs up in the first half-inning, as Newberry was designated as the home team. Newberry got on the board in the second off Kris Garcia�s (Miami, Fla.) double to left center drove in Matthew Webb (Cheraw, S.C.) for a game score of 4-1.

The Pacers scored three in the fourth and went ahead 8-1 before the Indians would get another run, scored by the only home run of the night from Curt Marshall (Rock Hill, S.C.) who knocked it deep to left field.

In the sixth inning, USC Aiken used three consecutive hits to bring in three more runs. Nick Loden (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) escaped further damage by striking out Zach Cooper with bases loaded to end the inning.

Newberry would get two runs off of Mark Yarbrough in the bottom of the eighth with a double from pinch hitter Anthony Orr (Lantana, Fla.), bringing in an RBI. Orr would post the Indians', and the game's, final run.

Gary Hersey (Key West, Fla.) and Matt Cote (Orleans, Ind.) were the most effective of Newberry's seven hurlers on the day, each pitching one hitless inning for Newberry.  Pete Stuppiello (Gilbert, S.C.) started and received the loss.

Newberry prepares for conference play this weekend when it travels to Mars Hill.  The first pitch of the two-day, three-game series is set for Saturday at noon.
