NEWBERRY, S.C. - In South Atlantic Conference play, the Newberry College women’s tennis team was defeated by Tusculum College, 6-3, this afternoon at R. Wright Cannon Tennis Courts. Tusculum improves their record to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in the SAC. Newberry evens out their record to 8-8 and 2-3 in the SAC.
The doubles duo of Lauren Hartley and Tanea Miller beat their opponents Bronwyn Hartley and Amanda Pike, 8-4. Sophomores Chanelle Clare and Bethany Poppe won their singles matches at the number four and five positions, while Hartley took her opponent Danae Valderrama into three sets, only to lose 7-6 in the third.
Newberry will travel to North Carolina for a match-up with Mars Hill College on Friday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. Tusculum will travel to Clinton to face Presbyterian College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
