HICKORY, N.C. - The Lady Indian netters won impressively over South Atlantic Conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday afternoon by a count of 9-0. Newberry improves to 6-5, 1-0 in conference play, while L-R is now 5-7 and 0-3 in the SAC.
Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario) and Tanea Miller (Nassau, Bahamas) scored Newberry's largest margin of doubles victory over L-R's Amanda Hunsucker and Amanda Stewart, 8-1. Isabel Kreidler (Horb, Germany) and Bethany Poppe (Califton, N.J.) won their number one doubles match, 8-6, while Brittany Grooms (Sumter, S.C.) and Chanelle Clare (Nassau, Bahamas) claimed the last doubles match, 8-3.
Kreidler, Clare, and Poppe each had a shutout set in singles competition. The top five Newberry flights did not surrender more than three points in a set, but Grooms had to resort to a 12-10 super tiebreaker win to claim the number six singles match.
