JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. � Following spring break at Newberry, the Indians traveled to Carson-Newman and was on the short end of two decisions at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. The Eagles, winners of nine of their last ten games, won the first game 13-6 and took the second game, 2-0.

Game 1: Carson-Newman 13, Newberry 6
The Eagles and Indians combined for 19 runs and 29 hits as the Eagles scored seven runs in the final two innings to win game one, 13-6.  C-N managed only three more hits than Newberry, but Newberry stranded nine base runners and managed no more than one run in the innings in which it scored.

The Indians� offense was led by Ryan Easterby (Charleston, S.C.) and Matthew Awtrey (Columbia, S.C.) who each hit homeruns for Newberry.  Chris Rahal (Vero Beach, Fla.) was three-for-four with a run batted in and a run scored. Brandon Manasa (Miami, Fla.) and Matthew Webb (Cheraw, S.C.) each managed a pair of hits in the contest.

Nick Achberger (Anderson, S.C.) and Jonathan Mary (Maryville, Tenn.) led the Eagles� offensive attack. Achberger hit two doubles and triple and Mary drove in four runs, three of which came on a three-run homerun in the eighth inning. Tyler Wynn (LaGrange, Ga.) drove in two runs for the Eagles.

The Eagles were led on the mound by Derrick Calkin (Maryville, Tenn.) and Justin Higdon (Ooltewah, Tenn.) who combined for seven strikeouts. Calkin improves to 2-1 on the season and Higdon came in to pick up his second save of the season.

Game 2, Carson-Newman 2, Newberry 0
Game two was completely opposite from game one in that it was a pitchers� duel that took only one hour and 11 minutes to play. C-N scored both runs in the first inning and went on to a 2-0 win over the Indians.

Jimmy Bertelson (Miami, Fla.) and Easterby were the only Indians to successfully hit in the nightcap.  Both runners reached second, the farthest any Newberry player would rotate in the game.

C-N hurler John Wallace (Marietta, Ga.) pitched a complete-game, two-hitter as he walked only one batter and fanned five Newberry batters. Pete Stuppiello (Gilbert, S.C.) took the loss despite pitching well, scattering five hits, two strikeouts and no walks.

All of the Eagles� scoring came in the first inning. Langdon Potts (Jefferson City, Tenn.) led the game off with a double and scored on a triple by Brandon Burchfield (Maryville, Tenn.). Charlie Munroe (Newton, N.J.) drove in Burchfield on a fielder�s choice in the infield. That would prove to be all the offense the Eagles would need as they won 2-0.

The Eagles (18-7, 5-0 SAC) and Indians (6-20-1, 0-5 SAC) complete the three-game weekend series on Sunday. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
