CONWAY, S.C. – Newberry’s women’s tennis team got off to a slow start to the 2006 season but against top-notch competition, falling to NCAA Division I-opponent Coastal Carolina.

The Chanticleers swept all three doubles matches to gain the 1-0 advantage in the match and then rolled through the singles portion to seal the 7-0 match victory. Newberry’s most competitive match-up came at No. 1 singles where Isabel Kreidler fell to Coastal Carolina’s Hayley Rudman, 6-4, 6-1.

Newberry next travels to Augusta State for a 2 p.m. match against the Jaguars on Feb. 7.
