Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. � Joe Cunetta gave up a solo home run that sparked a four-run tenth inning for Nova Southeastern as the No. 28 Sharks handed Newberry 10-inning loss at the Bob Tewksbury Classic Saturday afternoon, 8-4.
Newberry (1-6-1) tied the game at four in the bottom of the eighth as Ryan Easterby hit a sacrifice bunt to the Nova Southeastern (4-2) pitcher Marc Elkman with Carlos Pupo on third. Elkman slipped as he charged off the mound towards the ball due to the wet field but was able to recover in enough time to throw Easterby out at first, as Pupo charged home to score.
With one out in the top of the 10th inning, Brian Ikalina sent a solo homerun over the left-centerfield fence. Later in the inning, Dale Alberto had a two RBI double to centerfield as Nova Southeastern wrapped up a four-run 10th inning that sent the Sharks to an 8-4 lead.
The game was halted with one out in the top of the fifth as rain moving through the Saint Leo, Fla.-area sent the ballgame into a 59-minute rain delay before action resumed.
The Indians now look to regroup as they are scheduled to face host Saint Leo in the teams� final round robin game of the tournament. Potential wet weather could delay that game to Sunday as a determination has yet to be made.
