Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Lady Indians fell to 2-21 Sunday afternoon in Eleazer Arena, defeated in three games at the hands of Eckerd College. The non-conference win for the Tritons gives them a 13-9 overall record this season.
Newberry was unable to stop the pounding attack from junior hitter Kati Therriault. The Holly, Mich. native cushed 18 kills on just three errors in 38 total attacks while also notching up six digs. Therriault's seven kills helped the Tritons march to a 30-16 during game one.
After just six kills and 10 errors in game one, the Lady Indians picked up the play in the second and third games. Dropping game two 30-22, Newberry looked their best in the third frame.
Jumping out to leads of 15-12 and 17-14, the Lady Indians could not stave off the Tritons. Sophomore Angela White tallied six of her 11 kills in game three and freshman setter Megan Golovkin dished out 13 assists to aid an Eckerd 16-6 run to snare victory.
Though the Lady Indians had trouble on the attack, Newberry fared well defensively. Four Lady Indians registered five or more digs led by freshman libero Jennamarie Lesky's 10.
Newberry out-blocked Eckerd 9-3 with juniors Laurie Barman and Cara Coleman clogging the middle of the court. Barman accounted for five solo blocks complemented by eight kills and Coleman stuffed three Triton attacks on her own and also added a block assist.
Freshman hitter Lorena Maia had a team high 10 kills and senior setter Jessica Lopez finished the afternoon with 18 assists.
Newberry College volleyball hits the court next in Greenwood, S.C. with an October 11, Wednesday match up with Lander University. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
