WINGATE, N.C. � Newberry College fell to Wingate University in three games on Saturday afternoon (30-20, 30-17, 30-19) in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action in Cuddy Arena on the Wingate campus.

The first-place Wingate Bulldogs move to 18-4 overall and 9-0 in the SAC. Newberry falls to 2-19 overall and 1-8 in the SAC. The Indians have lost 14 consecutive matches.

For the Lady Indians, freshman outside hitter Lorena Maia had seven kills. Three other Newberry hitters registered six kills in senior Jessica Lipsi and juniors Laurie Barman and Cara Coleman. Lipsi also snuffed out 11 digs. Newberry senior setter Jessica Lopez dished out 27 assists. The Indians hit only .069 for the match compared to .330 for the Bulldogs.

Wingate hitter Lauren Alley slammed down 17 kills with just a solitary error to go along with eight digs. Rebecca Brezovec and Jacki Emmenecker each chipped in eight kills en route to the victory over Newberry.

The Lady Indians return to Newberry tomorrow to face Eckerd College at 3 p.m. in a non-conference bout.
