Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. � Newberry College failed to upset the second best team in the South Atlantic Conference on Friday night despite a rousing game three victory. Lenoir-Rhyne (21-12, 11-2 SAC) was able to fend off the charging Lady Indians in the final game for a four game win with scores of 30-19, 30-19, 28-30, and 30-26.
The Lady Indians (3-28, 2-11 SAC) exhibited disciplined and smart play in the final two games committing just eight attack errors in games three and four after fifteen in the first two matches.
Junior Laurie Barman was precise and powerful on the evening, tallying 14 kills and just four errors on 34 attacks. The Madison, Wisc. native was a force in the middle with two solo blocks complementing two block assists.
Freshman Lorena Maia continued strong towards the end of her first season with 13 kills while also scratching out seven digs, serving three aces, and accounting for a solo block.
Newberry College continued to utilize two setters with senior Jessica Lopez setting up a team high 18 assists followed by freshman Kilee Ruppe�s 13.
Jessica Lipsi recorded a team high 17 digs.
Lenoir-Rhyne received a splendid effort from setter Lauren McLelland. The junior racked up 51 assists in the match while leading the Bears in digs with 17.
Frehsman hitter Jordan Ledford cranked out 18 kills on 42 attacks, but also showed well defensively with 16 digs.
The Lady Indians host Mars Hill College at Eleazer Arena Saturday morning with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
