Lander hands Lady Indians 22nd loss of the season

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Newberry College volleybal struggled again Wednesday night, dropping a 16th consecutive match to Lander University in Greenwood. The Lady Indians (2-22, 1-8 SAC) have yet to win on an opposing court this season and Lander was no exception, defeating Newberry in three games with scores of 30-13, 30-21, and 30-27.

Sara Senn and Andrea Griffin recorded 10 kills each to lead the Lander volleyball team in Horne Arena. Melissa Trippany also added an impressive 20 digs. Lander improved to 18-10 on the season.

For Newberry, senior hitter from Jessica Lipsi led an attack that only connected at a .056 clip with 10 kills. The native of Sao Paulo, Brazil also chipped in eight digs and a block assist.

Fellow senior Jessica Lopez led the scarlet and gray with 21 assists and freshman Lorena Maia notched eight kills and scratched out a team high 15 digs.

Newberry stays on the road with a two match Friday shindig in Jefferson City, Tenn. for the Carson-Newman Regional Tournament. The Lady Indians face Rollins College at 4 p.m. and then Palm Beach Atlantic University at 7 p.m.
