Box Score WINGATE, N.C. � Cara Coleman had nine kills and Laurie Barman added four but in the first match without an Indian recording double-digit kills since Sept. 3, the Indians were unable to notch their fourth-consecutive conference win as Newberry fell to Wingate, 3-0. Game scores were 13-30, 26-30 and 23-30. Newberry topped the SAC Conference leader in total blocks, 7-6.
The Indians (7-9, 3-3 South Atlantic) hit .086 on the match while Wingate (15-2, 4-1 SAC) hit a tough .311. Molly Kerns led the Bulldogs with 17 kills, hitting .560, while two-time SAC Player of the Week Rebecca Brezovec notched 12.
Game one saw the Indians worst loss in a game since Newberry fell 30-12 in the third game against Presbyterian College in 2004. Coleman notched four of her nine kills in the first set and served up one of her two aces in the match but Newberry hit -.129 to Wingate�s .515.
Wingate got out to a quick start in game two, taking a 20-13 and then a 27-20 lead but Newberry fought back to pull within two at 28-26. However, a Jamie Foster-Mann attack error and Whitney West (Wingate) kill sealed the victory for Wingate, 30-26.
The third game was a feisty one as the teams battled back and forth with eight tie scores and five lead changes. Both coaches received yellow cards in the game as Wingate�s Shelton Collier earned his at the 13-12 Newberry lead mark in the game. Dr. Gylton Da Matta was given a yellow card at the 19-16 Wingate lead mark. Brezovec led Wingate in the game with five kills while Barman recorded all four of her kills in the third set. The Indians attempted another comeback in game three but it wasn�t enough as Wingate closed out the match with a 30-23 win to seal the 3-0 match victory.
