NEWBERRY, S.C. � Visiting tenth-ranked USC Aiken shelled seven different Newberry pitchers for 15 hits as the Pacers pounded the hometown Indians 12-2 in Division II baseball action Wednesday night.  Newberry drops to 15-27 on the year, while USC Aiken improves to 29-8.

The Pacers picked up a strong starting pitching performance from Jon Paul (Prosperity, S.C.), who lasted seven complete innings.  Paul (3-2) scattered five hits and fanned four Indian batters.

USC Aiken was already up 1-0, when the Pacers scored five runs in their half of the third, giving them an insurmountable 6-0 lead.  Pacer outfielder Brandon Barenie (Evans, Ga.) hit a two-RBI double in the inning, while designated hitter Justin Williams (Barnwell, S.C.) also ripped an RBI double.  Williams was 2-for-4 on the night with two runs scored.

Newberry starting pitcher Ty Rollins (Columbia, S.C.) only lasted 2.2 innings, giving up five earned runs on five hits.

The eight and nine hitters for the Pacers did a tremendous amount of damage, as right fielder Darryl Pui (Thornville, Ont.) and center fielder Zach Cooper (N. Augusta, S.C.) combined to go 6-for-10 on the night.  Pui alone went 4-for-5, with two RBIs and a run scored.

The rout was on as USC Aiken added three runs in both the fifth and the eighth to take a commanding 12-0 lead.  Newberry�s lone runs came in the bottom of the eighth, as Newberry designated hitter Dean Walker (Afton, Tenn.) hit a two-RBI double, scoring both Anthony Dillenger (Gaffney, S.C.) and Matt Awtrey (Columbia, S.C.).

Dillenger was the only Indian batter to collect more than one hit, going 2-for-4 with a double.

Rollins (2-4) was tagged with the loss for the Indians.  Starting pitcher Russell Haltiwanger (Simpsonville, S.C.), who has been battling the injury bug for the last three weeks, struck out the side in the ninth inning in a relief appearance.

The Indians are back in South Atlantic Conference action this coming Saturday, as the Indians host Mars Hill for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
