Women's tennis falls in first round of SAC Tournament to Catawba, 5-0

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba, seeded third in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, defeated visiting Newberry 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. With the win, Catawba advances to a Saturday morning semifinal against second-seeded Tusculum at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Catawba improves to 18-5 overall, setting a new school record for wins in a season. Newberry ends its season at 2-10.

Catawba claimed all three doubles matches and earned picked up singles wins from #4 Lauren Fluegge (Avondale, AZ) and #5 Meri Cartmill (West Barnstable, MA) to close out the match. Catawba won both #1 and #2 doubles by the score of 8-6 with the #3 squad earning an 8-0 win.
