NEWBERRY, S.C. � Laurie Barman notched 12 kills in her seventh double-digit kill match of the season and fifth consecutive but Wingate�s Rebecca Brezovec proved too much for the Indian defense with 14 kills as the Bulldogs topped the Indians, 3-0. Game scores were 29-31, 27-30 and 19-30.

Wingate (21-3, 10-2 South Atlantic) hit .200 in the match while Newberry (11-14, 5-7 SAC) hit .165. Kathryn Reddick added 10 kills for the Bulldogs while Jamie Foster-Mann was potent at the net with two block solos and one block assist. The Indians were outblocked in the match, however, 8-6.

Newberry had a 28-23 lead in game one, but Wingate charged back to take the game 31-29 under the stellar serving of Nicole Francis and Amanda Siegrist, who served an ace to end the game. Jessica Lipsi led the Indians with six kills while Barman added four.

Brezovec came to life in game two with five kills to lead the Bulldogs as Wingate hit .154 in the game, up from .080 in game one. Barman again notched four kills for Newberry, as did Cara Coleman and the Indians hit .205 but serving hurt Newberry with only one ace and four errors. Wingate notched five service aces in the game, four of which came from Lauren Alley.

A deflated Indian squad struggled in game three after two close losses, hitting .184 to Wingate�s .333. Barman had another four-kill game but serving once again hurt the Indians with no aces and four errors in the game. Wingate outdug the Indians, 21-10 in the game as they rolled to a 30-19 victory, sealing the sweep for the Bulldogs.

Newberry will host Catawba on Saturday, Oct. 29 as the Indians continue to search for their record setting sixth conference win. The Indians tied the school record for conference wins on Oct. 8 with a 3-0 sweep against Tusculum. Wingate travels to Presbyterian Saturday at 4 p.m.
