ANDERSON, S.C. Jason Jones singled in the bottom of the seventh to bring home Jason Ratliff and give Anderson College a 6-5 victory in the second game and a sweep of Newberry in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

In the first game, Anderson scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-1 and then held on for a 7-6 victory.

The Indians scored two runs in the top of the sixth of the second game to take a 5-4 lead and entered the bottom of the seventh still clinging to their one-run advantage. Caleb Owen led off the Anderson seventh with a walk. After he moved to second on a sacrifice, Jason Ratliff tripled to tie the game at 5. Jones then came to plate and provided the game-winning hit.

Jones was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in the second game, while Owen was 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Stuart Kay led Newberry with two hits in four trips, including a solo home run in the first.

The Trojans took control of the first game with a five-run fourth. Four consecutive singles by F.A. Vildosola, Seth Thompson, Jesse Whiteside, and Johnny Garrett generated two runs. After Garretts two-run single, Owen had a two-run double, and Ratliff rapped an RBI single.

A two-run homer by Anthony Dillenger in the sixth helped in the Indians cut the Anderson lead to 7-5. The Indians got one more run in the seventh on a solo home run by Travis Moore, but that was as close as Newberry could get.

Anderson is now 15-27 overall, while Newberry falls to 17-25. AC won two of three games against Newberry this season.
