FORT MILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Robbie Bouman went 4-for-4 with two RBI as the second-seeded Pioneers defeated No. 7 Newberry College 5-2 Thursday afternoon in first day action of the 2004 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament, held this week at Knights Stadium.  The double-elimination tournament is in conjunction with the Food Lion SAC Springs Sports Festival.

Tusculum (30-22) advances to Friday's winners bracket contest against No. 3 Wingate University beginning at 9 a.m. at Knights Stadium.  The Indians (21-30) will square off against No. 6 seed Lenoir-Rhyne College in an elimination game beginning at 9 a.m. at Winthrop Field in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Pioneers pounded out 16 hits, while starter Eric Butler went eight innings, allowed two runs, walked three and struck out six to improve his record to 6-5.  Wes Hill pitched the final inning to earn his sixth save of the year.

TC got on the board in the first inning when Josh Wolff led off with a single, stole second, moved third on a groundout and scored on Bouman's fly ball.  Tusculum added another run in the fifth inning when Guy O'Connell doubled and scored on George Hanger's single.

The Pioneers made it 5-0 with three markers in the sixth inning thanks to a RBI single by Bouman and a sacrifice fly from Hanger.

Newberry cut the lead to 5-2 when Stuart Kay clubbed his 11th homer run of the season, a two-run blast with Gilmore Stevens aboard.  Kay finished the game going 2-for-4, which included his 28th round-tripper.
