Newberry goes four with Lander, but comes out on short end of 3-1 volleyball match

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Ashley Stathas recorded a game-high 17 kills, while teammates Sara Senn and Kelly Leary added 15 each to lead the Lander volleyball team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Newberry Tuesday night in Horne Arena.

Lander, which won 17-30, 30-22, 30-23, 30-22, improves to 8-10 overall, while Newberry drops to 6-9.

Leary also added 34 digs, while Melissa Trippany had 32. Senn and Claire Damon had 11 and 15 digs respectively. Danielle Anderson had a game-high 57 assists. Trippany also had a team-high five service aces.

Newberry was led by Cara Coleman's career-high 15 kills. Alicia Khoury had a team-high 38 assists. Kelly Harting led the Indians in digs with 26, while Amanda Van Pelt and Jessica Lipsi had 18 each and Jessica Lopez 17.

Newberry comes home for two conference contests this weekend.  Friday night at 7 p.m., the Lady Indians will host Lenoir-Rhyne, followed by a Saturday morning contest at 11 a.m. versus Mars Hill.
