JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Newberry women’s soccer team played another tight game with a top ten opponent, only to fall short to the eighth-ranked Carson-Newman Eagles 1-0 in the conclusion of the regular season for both sides.  Even in a loss, the Lady Indians can always look back and smile at their record-setting 13-5 overall record, including a 4-3 South Atlantic Conference mark. 

The Lady Eagles finish the regular season with a 14-2-1 overall record and with the win over Newberry clinched a share the conference title with Tusculum.

The lone goal of the match came in the 66th minute when Julie Nelson (Larne, Northern Ireland) scored on a corner kick from Lindsey Ferris (McKinney, Texas).

Most of the match was played in Newberry territory, as Carson-Newman out-shot the Lady Indians 12-4, and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Lady Indian goalkeeper Danielle Beckerle (St. Louis, Mo.) kept her team in the hunt, making six saves for the Indians.

With the Saturday’s loss to Carson-Newman, Newberry’s first-round playoff match up was decided.  The Lady Indians will indeed play archrival Presbyterian at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 2nd. at the Newberry Soccer Complex.  The match will be the first home playoff game in school history.
