Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - Carson-Newman picked up its second conference win with a 30-25, 30-21, 30-23 victory over Newberry College Saturday afternoon at Eleazer Arena. Carson-Newman (13-6, 2-4 SAC) snapped a two-game losing streak, while Newberry (6-8, 1-5 SAC) had its winning momentum broken after last night's win against Tusculum College.
The Lady Indians kept game one close through the midway point and led the Lady Eagles 16-15. C-N ran off seven straight, two of those points off Blaire Young (Morristown, Tenn.) service aces, and Newberry could not recover. Just like the first set, Newberry was competitive in game two through 15-all, but the Eagles used two four-point spurts to gain a 30-21 win.
Game three appeared to belong to the home team, as Newberry led 4-0 and then 9-2. The Indians' last lead was 17-16, but three consecutive Eagle points put Carson-Newman on top. Newberry pulled even at 19-all before an 8-2 run by the visitors to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Jessica Lipsi (Columbia, S.C.) paced Newberry with eight kills, and also contributed ten digs. Junior Jessica Lopez (Madison, Wisc.) followed Lipsi with seven kills. Indian libero Kelly Harting (Ohio City, Ohio) came through defensively with a game-high 16 digs.
