Box Score NEWBERRY - The Newberry College Indians are off to their best start in Men's Soccer history as the home team defeated St. Andrews College 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Newberry College Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon. The Indians are now 3-0, the first time in school history that the program has started with three consecutive wins.
Newberry possessed the ball well, staying mainly in the Knights half of the field. The game went scoreless in the first half, thanks to some good play in goal by Knights keeper Hal Tate (Walterboro, S.C.).
Newberry scored in the 63rd minute on a well designed corner kick play. Freshman Jeffrey Taylor (Sumter, S.C.) served the bending kick to the front of the net from the right corner. Sophomore tri-captain Miles Childers (Casper, Wy.) headed the ball to the right post, where freshman Chad Domis (Irmo, S.C.) put the past a diving Tate to score the game winner.
The goal was Domis' second of the year, while Newberry keeper and tri-captain Tim Seibert (Harrisburg, N.C.) pitched his second shutout of the year, improving his goals against average to 0.33. Newberry had only one shutout last season. Seibert had five saves against a scrappy Knights team that put the pressure on in the waning minutes of the match.
Newberry travels to Anderson Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. match against the Trojans.
