Catawba (13-5-1) advances on to play against top-seeded Carson-Newman at 1 p.m. for Sunday's final. The Eagles defeated Catawba 3-2 back on October 11 in the regular season match-up between the two teams.
Newberry (9-8-3 FINAL RECORD) got on the board first at home on a goal by forward Troy Pinckney (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), as he put his fourth goal of the season past keeper Carl McMahon (Sydney, AUSTRALIA) on a cross from midfielder Brandon Cockrell (Mauldin, S.C.) at the 27:17 mark.
Catawba then got a pair of goals before the half ended from forward Ross Hudgins (Poquoson, Va.). The first was a header that came 68 seconds after the Newberry score on a cross from Felipe Rubio (Miami, Fla.). Hudgins' second goal was courtesy of a Dumond cross from the right side to a touch to the far post.
Newberry tied the match on the foot of Jeffrey Taylor (Sumter, S.C.). The freshman scored Newberry's first-ever tournament goal on Tuesday and chipped one past McMahon to knot the game at two with just under 40 minutes left to play.
Dumond's game-winner was unassisted.
