Shannah Carter joined the Newberry College men's and women's volleyball staff in March of 2026.

Carter joins the Wolves after serving as an assistant with women's program at Wofford College.

Carter joined the Terriers as an assistant coach in 2023, making her way to Spartanburg after serving as a club and high school coach in Minnesota. Carter was instrumental in the program's first two Southern Conference Championships in 2023 and 2024.

In her second season at Wofford, Carter helped Wofford to the 2024 Southern Conference Tournament championship, this time in a reverse sweep comeback over Mercer. The Terriers made their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, traveling to Waco, Texas, to play Baylor. Wofford’s 23 wins matched last season’s Division I era mark, and the 12-4 SoCon clip marked a best ever for the program with an all-time best of the No. 2 seed in the SoCon Tournament. The Terriers tallied a program record with a 15-2 home mark, including the program’s first-ever win over a ranked team by besting No. 15 Tennessee. During the 2024 campaign, Wofford led the SoCon in numerous statistical categories, including assists per set (12.42), kills per set (13.41), total assists (1,515), and total digs (2,246). Wofford ranked fifth in the nation in digs per set at 18.41. Mary Emily Morgan became the 19^th Terrier ever with 1,000 career digs and earned All-SoCon Second Team recognition while Taylor Pecht recorded her 1,000^th collegiate assist.

The 2023 campaign saw Wofford win the Southern Conference Tournament on its own floor to secure the program's first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament. Though falling to No. 2 Kentucky in the first round, the Terriers completed a historic season that saw 23 wins, the most in the program's Division I era, alongside a 15-3 home record, by far the best in Wofford's history. Two Terriers, Sarah Barham (first team) and Millie Loehr (second team) earned All-SoCon recognition. The team set program records for total blocks (295.5) and blocks per set (2.57) as both marks led the conference. Barham's 146 blocks topped her own single-season program record. She reached the 400 blocks milestone for a career as Loehr reached the 200 threshold. Emily Hodsdon recorded her 100th ace, and Abbey Richman tallied her 1,000th dig. 
 
After finishing her collegiate playing career, Carter pursued coaching, beginning her career with the prestigious club M1 Volleyball. She has assisted at Lakeville South High School in Minnesota starting in 2019, winning the conference championship twice.
 
As a player, Carter was a defensive specialist and libero for Division III UW-Stevens Point. Carter played in 75 matches during her career, totaling 336 digs in 222 sets. She added 35 assists and 48 aces. Her junior season in 2017 saw her deliver 25 aces, tied for third best on her Pointers squad.
 
A native of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Carter graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2019 with a degree in business administration with a minor in coaching.
