Kristi Coggins enters her third season as an assistant coach at Newberry College.

Coggins comes to Newberry after being the head coach at the University of South Carolina for 14 years. Coggins led the Gamecocks to 12 post-season trips with six NCAA appearances and the 2002 Southeastern Conference title. She was voted the 1999 SEC Coach of the Year. She coached two players to earning the prestigious Dinah Shore Trophy, given to the top women’s golfer in the nation based upon success on the golf course, classroom, community service and leadership. She coached the SEC Player of the Year in both 19995 and 2003 and had the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2006.

Prior to South Carolina Coggins was at Texas Christian University for nine seasons, leading the Lady Frogs to three runner up finishes in the Southwest Conference Championships in 1988, '89 and '93. Her squads finished in the top three in the conference tournament in eight of nine seasons. She led TCU to five NCAA appearances comprising three trips to the NCAA finals. In her nine seasons they finished ranked 26th or better, including a third place finish in 1989 which earned Coggins Southwest Conference Coach of the Year honors.

All in all Coggins has had 12 players go on to play professional golf. Six have earned All-American honors and 11 different individuals have embellished 20 All-SEC and All-Southwest Conference honors. Academics has also been a pride of Coggins as she has helped 19 athletes to receive Academic All-American honors.

She received her bachelor of science degree in recreational administration from Southwest Texas State University in 1984 and served as a teaching professional at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas, from 1984-86.
