GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Newberry College men's soccer team picked up a 5-3 road victory over Bob Jones University on Tuesday night, using a five-goal offensive performance to hold off the Bruins.
Newberry came out strong, scoring three consecutive goals to take a 3-0 lead.
Ben Curtis found the back of the net three times, scoring at the 44:43, 41:33, and 15:58 marks. The Bruins answered with a goal at the 9:41 mark, cutting the Wolves' advantage to 3-1 heading into halftime.
Bob Jones continued to apply pressure coming out of the break, scoring at the 41:56 mark to make it a 3-2 game. The Wolves responded with two quick goals to regain control.
Denys Bekhvandi scored at the 28:55 mark to push the lead to 4-2, before Newberry added another goal at the 27:46 mark to make it 5-2. The Bruins scored once more with 10:51 remaining, but the Wolves held defensively to secure the 5-3 victory.
Newberry returns to action as they host Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, September 19th, at 4:30 pm.
