Wolves Battle No. 21 Lander but Fall 0-7

NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry Wolves fell 7-0 to No. 21 nationally ranked Lander Bearcats on Monday afternoon, battling throughout the lineup against one of the top teams in the country.

In doubles play, the Wolves showed early fight at the No. 1 position. Daniel Watson and Lucas Mruk pushed their opponents in a tightly contested battle before dropping a narrow 7-5 decision. The pair traded games throughout the set and kept the pressure on, turning in Newberry's most competitive doubles performance of the day.

Watson continued that momentum into singles at the No. 1 spot. Watson delivered a strong effort, falling 6-3, 6-4 in a match that featured extended rallies and tightly contested games. After dropping the opening set 6-3, he elevated his level in the second set, narrowing the margin and forcing his opponent to earn key points late.

Senthen Reddy competed at No. 2 singles and battled through a 6-3, 6-3 contest, while Sohei Kamiyama picked up four games in the opening set at No. 5 before ultimately falling. Martin Posada Garcia and Noel Bartz also represented the Wolves in singles and doubles action. Evan Philips continued to compete at No. 6 singles, gaining valuable experience against high-level competition.

The Wolves will return to competition on February 28th to start conference play against Emory & Henry at the Oakland Tennis Center.
