Game Recap: Softball |

Newberry Softball Earns the Sweep in Home Opener

NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry Wolves continued to build early-season momentum with a doubleheader sweep of Augusta University, taking both games at home to improve to 2–4 on the year. Newberry's pitching staff was strong throughout the day, and timely hitting highlighted a balanced offensive performance in Game 2. The Wolves committed zero errors in both contests and manufactured runs in key situations to outscore Augusta 12–3 on the day, showing growth from earlier outings and giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about.

Game 1: Wolves 2, Jaguars 1

In Game 1, Newberry used a pair of small-ball runs to grind out a 2–1 victory. The Wolves struck first in the second when GraceAnn Thompkins brought home Brooke Hodges with an RBI groundout, and they added an insurance run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Haidyn Campbell. Augusta threatened late with a solo home run in the seventh, but Katie Kapusta was able to shut the door in the circle, holding the Jaguars to just one run and five hits to secure the narrow win.

Game 2: Wolves 10, Jaguars 2 (6 Inn.)

Newberry came out swinging in Game 2, posting a 10–2 victory thanks to a big first and third inning. The Wolves plated three in the first and added two more in the second before breaking the game open in the third, capped by a three-run homer from Samantha Clark that put Newberry well in front. Brooke Hodges added a solo home run in the sixth, and standout performances across the lineup, including multiple RBI from Bethany Pigg and Christine Butler, helped Newberry coast to the decisive win behind another quality start from Natalie Wescott.
