NEWBERRY S.C. - For 89 minutes, Anderson and Newberry battled through a tense, physical showdown that looked destined to end in a scoreless draw.
With the clock winding toward 90 minutes and the match hanging by a thread, Ruiz delivered the moment that broke everything open. At 89:18, Ruiz found the back of the net, sending the Wolves into celebration and Anderson into heartbreak as Newberry stole a dramatic 1–0 victory.
Newberry's goalkeeper came up with three crucial saves, standing tall when Anderson turned up the pressure. Anderson finished the night with 13 shots, including three on target, and repeatedly tested the Wolves' defense. Maddie answered every time she needed to, keeping Newberry within striking distance and giving her team the chance to find its moment.
With the victory, the Wolves improve to 3-5-3 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play, while Anderson falls to 6-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
The Wolves will be back in action Friday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m., when they return home to host Mars Hill. After a victory this dramatic, Newberry will look to carry that same fight, defensive grit and late-game mentality into its next battle.
