NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry College women's soccer team continued its undefeated start to the season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Emmanuel on Saturday night at the Smith Road Complex.
The Wolves struck late in the first half when Haylee Patino scored an amazing goal for her first of the season in the 40th minute to put Newberry on top. Just after halftime, Molly Quartly doubled the advantage, finishing a setup from freshman Lauren Adams in the 46th minute.
Defensively, goalkeeper Madison Gutierrez turned away four shots to record her second clean sheet of the year. The brick wall back line of Emily Castaneda, Sydney Gusewelle, and Avalina Espinoza anchored a defensive effort that limited Emmanuel to just four shots on goal across 90 minutes.
With the result, the Wolves improved to 1-0-1 on the season while extending their shutout streak to two matches. Newberry will look to carry the momentum into its next contest vs. Shorter University on the road on Wednesday.
