Wolves Dominate Shaw in 6-0 Home Victory

NEWBERRY, SC – The Newberry men's soccer team continued its unbeaten start to the season with a commanding 6-0 win over Shaw University Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex. With the victory, the Wolves improve to 4-0-1 overall and remain unbeaten at home.

The Wolves set the tone early as Alex Lopez opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Ben Curtis doubled the lead in the 32nd, finishing off a feed from Benjamin Martinez. Newberry came out strong after halftime, adding four more goals to seal the win. Jacob Davis struck first in the 47th minute off an assist from Giuseppe Gereau, followed by a pair of goals from Joel Martins in the 70th and 76th minutes, with Tyson Funderburk and Brody Beckwith providing the assists. Beckwith then capped the scoring less than two minutes later with a goal of his own, set up by Martins.

On the defensive end, the Wolves kept another clean sheet behind strong play from goalkeepers Charlie Clark and Logan Knapp, who combined for two saves on the afternoon. Newberry's back line limited Shaw to just two shots on goal, locking down the Bears' attack from start to finish.

The Wolves will look to carry their momentum into South Atlantic Conference play when they return to action on Saturday at home vs. Carson Newman at 4:30pm.
