WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 7 Newberry Wolves field hockey team continued their undefeated start to the season with a statement 3–0 victory over No. 4 West Chester on Saturday evening at Vonnie Gros Field.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Newberry found its breakthrough in the second period. Finet Heemskerk slotted home a goal off a penalty corner at the 16:28 mark, assisted by Payton Keeler. Just eight minutes later, Wibien Dahmen doubled the Wolves' advantage, finishing a breakaway opportunity created by Amber Tozana.
Dahmen struck again early in the third quarter, this time on a setup from Lieke Varenkamp, extending the lead to 3–0. From there, Newberry's defense and goalkeeper Ayanda Mangenah took over. Mangenah posted a brilliant 12-save performance, frustrating the Golden Rams' attack and securing her fifth win and shutout of the season.
The Wolves held strong despite facing 20 total shots from West Chester, showcasing both defensive discipline and clinical finishing on the counterattack.
Adding to the team's historic week, senior forward Emma Westbrook etched her name into program history last night, breaking the Newberry Field Hockey career goals record.
With the win, Newberry improves to 5–0 on the year and will look to carry momentum into their next matchup against Lander on Saturday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m.
