Wolves Extend Perfect Season with Shutout Over Wingate

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The third-ranked Newberry field hockey team continued its dominant season Tuesday night with a 4–0 victory over Wingate at Setzler Field. With the win, the Wolves improved to 15-0 overall and 11-0 in league play, while recording their eight shutout of the season.

Parker Keeler opened the scoring just over four minutes into the first quarter, capitalizing off an early penalty corner to give Newberry the lead. The Wolves added to their advantage in the second period when Emma Hulsmeyer scored off an assist from Payton Keeler at the 19:55 mark. Less than nine minutes later, Olivia Smith extended the margin to 3–0 with a strike with her first goal of the season assisted by Wibien Dahmen.

Newberry capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter as Emma Westbrook found the back of the cage with help from Zoe Barker. Defensively, the Wolves were once again sharp, limiting Wingate to just seven total shots and four on goal. Goalkeeper Ayanda Mangenah made three saves to preserve the shutout. Newberry outshot Wingate 16–7 and held an 11–3 edge in penalty corners on the night.

The Wolves return to action this Friday, October 31, when they host Belmont Abbey for Senior Day at 6 p.m. at Setzler Field.
