NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College women's wrestling team put up a strong fight in their home meet against Allen University, but the Wolves came up short, falling 30-15.
The Wolves earned three victories on the mat, highlighted by Emely Mejia-Martinez at 117 pounds, who secured a dominant pin over Stacy Pule in just 2:54. Dara Lin (145 lbs) also showcased her strength, pinning JahMya Hill in 2:36 to add crucial points for Newberry. Celeste Welch (124 lbs) picked up a victory by forfeit, contributing to the Wolves' total.
Despite hard-fought efforts, Newberry suffered setbacks in the event due to injuries, losing 10 points to Injury forfeits.Â
Allen also took advantage of forfeits in multiple weight classes, ultimately securing the team victory with a final score of 30-15.
The Wolves will look to bounce back in their next competition as they finish off their season on February 11th at King University.Â
