Box Score The #8 ranked Newberry College Wolves won their third consecutive game and fifth in their last six outings, avenging an earlier loss at Mount Olive with a 3-1 home victory over the Trojans.
The win improved the Wolves record to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the South Atlantic Conference and into three-way tie for first place in the league standings with Lander and Mount Olive. Â
Newberry led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by
Emma Westbrook. It was her team leading 10th goal of the season and 32nd of her career.
The Wolves increased the lead to 2-0 heading into halftime on
Parker Keeler's fifth goal of the year off an assist from
Wibien Dahmen.
The Wolves took a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter after a third period goal by
Lieke Varenkamp, her fourth of the season, assisted by
Zoe Barker.
The victory also broke a five-game losing streak to the Trojans, earning the Wolves their first victory over Mount Olive since a 4-2 win in Newberry in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Tournament on Nobember 3, 2021.
After playing just three home games before today's contest, the Wolves are in the midst of finishing the regular season with five of their last six games at Setzler Field.
The Wolves are in a stretch of three games in five days as they travel to Spartanburg Friday to face Converse and return home Saturday to host Belmont Abbey at 11:00 a.m. at Setzler Field.
