NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's soccer falls to the eagles in a heartbreaking match.
Starting off on the wrong foot, the wolves allowed an early goal in the 7th minute of the match. This would be a necessary wake for the team as they did not let another goal in till the 74th minute of the match.
Offensively the wolves were plagued with bad luck. As the match played out, the team had multiple opportunities to connect with the goal but fell short. Freshman
Alexa Randall worked tirelessly on the attacking end, setting up shots and working the ball around.
Defenders
Becca Lipp and
Sydney Gusewelle were stand outs on the defensive end. Pulling out all the tricks Gusewelle tallied multiple caused turnovers and was crucial on moving the ball down field. Lipp also tallied multiple caused turnovers while being the backbone of this wolves defense today. Locking down the field, against her no shots were let off as she forced the visiting eagles to acknowledge her presence.
In the final 15 minutes of the match, the eagles put up a presumed finisher, scoring in the 74th minute, but sophomore
Jysabella Tolentino had other things to say. A minute later,
Ella McDevitt found Tolentino flying down the field where she set up a perfect pass, drawing out the opposing goalie, resulting in her fourth goal of the season. Refusing to back down the wolves found an opportunity to score after Carson-Newman was given a yellow card. With momentum the team marched down the field finding Tolentino yet again at the 88th mark. Unfortunately the sophomore was unable to connect with the ball properly and her shot missed the mark.
The wolves hit the road this Wednesday, Oct. 4th, where they take on the Coker Cobras in Hartsville, S.C.
