Box Score NEWBERRY, S.C. - Opening the evening's double header, Women's Soccer defeats Limestone University 2-1.
In an exciting back and forth match up, the Wolves found early success and never looked back. Senior standout
Jaidyn Jacobs coninued her dominant season as she opened the game at the 23 minute mark with the first goal. Although the Wolves were held to four shots in the first half, they made sure to capitalize each chance. Only six minutes later, Jacobs found the goal yet again to put the team up 2-0.
That would be the last of the scoring excitment for the first half, but not the defensive excitment. Sophomore goal keeper Corrine Brooks stayed busy majority of the first half, coming out with six saves. In the second half Brooks continued on her performance, saving five and only allowing one.
At the half Limestone adjusted their game plan and thwarted the Wolves attempts to build their lead. Playing defense majority of the game gave players like sophomore
Ava Espinoza a chance to shine on the other side of the ball. Espinoza provided crucial blocks on the Saints shots as well as an overall lock down performance. The half was also highlighted by defenders
Emily Castaneda,
Rizza Songco,
Becca Lipp and
Allyna Gonzalez who helped lock out the Saints.
The Wolves (3-3-1, 1-1-1 SAC) look forward as they head west to Lincoln Memorial University this Saturday for another SAC showdown. The match begins at 1 PM.
