MONTEVALLO, Ala. – After a close battle for much of the afternoon, the Newberry College men's soccer team dropped a road contest to the University of Montevallo Falcons, 2-1.
A scoreless game for the first 36 minutes, the Falcons broke the tie in the 37th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
15 minutes into the second half, Newberry senior
Uriel Zarracan was able to take advantage of a Montevallo yellow card in the penalty area, netting a penalty kick for his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1.
A short while later in the 68th minute, the Falcons regained the lead with another goal and ultimately held that lead the remainder of the game.
Goalkeeper
Jacob Cotton was able to stop six of the eight shots he faced on the day as the Wolves were outshot 10-4 on goal.
Newberry returns home for a Saturday (Sept. 16) matchup with the Wasps of Emory & Henry. The conference game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
